Surfs up

Peter and I decided to make a trip down to our favourite beach, Burleigh Heads, and check out the waves after the storm. It had gone down, but there were still some big waves, maybe 3 or 4 meters high. The beaches were still closed, but there were a few foolhardy idiots out in the surf, and with a very strong beach edged river movement they were being swept northwards at a good pace.
It looks like the waves came up to here, right beside the road.

The waves are still big,  you can see a surfer standing on the wave.
A tree blown over by the beach being cut up by council workers.

Council workers cleaing up the foreshore.

Meeshes Restaurant. The waves were crashing right through the bottom level of this restaurant.

During the height of the storm, up around the Sunshine coast there was a massive amount of sea foam produced. It floated right up over the beach and onto the streets. I have seen this before, in 1974 I think, when we lived in Napier, during Cyclone Bola the same thing happened along the foreshore. It was the most amazing sight.

Here is a car coming out of the foam on the Sunshine Coast.  This link is the news on USA television.

In case you missed it check out this link.
