China's rainbow mountains are real and they're spectacular.   These incredible images are actual views of a danxia formation in a mountain range in southeast China. (Danxia translates to "rosy cloud," which seems appropriate.) The mountains' eye-popping rainbow colors are the result of different colors of sandstone being pressed into distinct layers over several million years. (one would guess.)


 The entire region was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010, one of 40 World Heritage sites scattered throughout the country. "Its unique features cannot be replaced by any other heritage site," a UNESCO spokesperson said. "China danxia has an outstanding universal and worldwide value”.
