This has
been a really strange summer for weather…it has been wet, wet, wet and then a
bit dry and then wet again.
Yesterday
was nice, but the two days before that gave us about 100 mls of rain. This
morning was nice, but this afternoon a line of storms has gone over with more
heavy rain. We are noticing that the showers seem to be more intense too and
the drainage in the house can’t cope with it all.

Beside the lounge window is this little garden. When it rains there is often some runnoff along the front but today after just a few minutes the whole garden was awash. | | . |

A couple of days ago we went for a drive along Michigan Drive. |
|
| It was pouring down there. |
|
Water pouring off the roof to a little channel along the stone wall. |
|
It was coming down in buckets. |
One of the
nice things about the storms coming over is that they only last an hour or two
and then are gone, although it looks like another line will come over later on.
Especially noticeable are the birds, or lack of. As the thunder gets closer all
the birds disappear. I guess they all have their places of shelter to go to.
Then sometimes, as happened today, large flocks of them will come around the
house, get into the tops of the trees and sway around with the trees, fluffing
and flapping their wings to get a good bath. I remember once seeing a flock of
sulphur crested cockatoos in a storm, and they were hanging upside down in the
pouring rain, screeching and flapping, having a great old time.
